Marcus Aurelius reigned as Roman emperor from 161 to 180, governing as the last of the Five Good Emperors during the era known as the Pax Romana. Pitane was an ancient Greek settlement possessing two harbours in Aeolis, situated in the broader region of Mysia in northwestern Asia Minor. This civic bronze coinage was issued at Pitane under Marcus Aurelius between AD 166 and 180.
