Historical context
This coin was issued by the ancient city of Olbia, an emporium originally founded in the 7th century BC by colonists from Miletus on the Southern Bug estuary. Under Roman imperial rule, the city struck civic coinage during the reign of Septimius Severus, Roman emperor from 193 to 211. The obverse depicts Severus's younger son Geta, born in 189, who later became co-emperor alongside his elder brother Caracalla and their father in 209.
