Historical context

Tyras was an ancient Greek city situated on the northern coast of the Black Sea, founded by settlers from Miletus. Lucius Septimius Severus governed as Roman emperor from 193 to 211 after seizing power in 193. His younger son, Publius Septimius Geta, was proclaimed co-emperor in 209 alongside his father and his older brother Caracalla, reigning until his death in December 211.
