Historical context

Domitian served as Roman emperor from 81 to 96, ruling as the final emperor of the Flavian dynasty following his father Vespasian and brother Titus. During his fifteen-year reign, Domitian utilised religious, military, and cultural propaganda to foster a cult of personality and revalued the Roman coinage to strengthen the economy. Nikomedia, an ancient Greek city located in what is now Turkey, functioned as a minting city within the empire.
