Reverse: Emperor (Septimius Severus) in military attire standing left, holding patera and spear; behind, Demeter (?), crowning emperor. Legend: ЄΠΙ ϹΤΡ Π ΑΙΛΙ ЄVΤVΧΟVϹ ΑΔΡΑΜΥΤΗΝΩΝ. Historical context

Septimius Severus ruled as Roman emperor from 193 to 211, having proclaimed his elder son Caracalla co-emperor in 198. Caracalla, born Lucius Septimius Bassianus, belonged to the Severan dynasty and served as nominal co-emperor under his father until Severus died in 211. This civic bronze coin was struck at Adramyttion in Mysia between circa AD 198 and 206, during their joint rule.
