Historical context

This bronze coin was issued by the ancient city of Adramyttion, located in the northwest region of Mysia in ancient Asia Minor. It was struck under Emperor Caracalla, born Lucius Septimius Bassianus to Septimius Severus and Julia Domna. Severus proclaimed Caracalla co-ruler in 198, and following his father's death and the murder of his brother Geta in 211, Caracalla ruled as sole emperor until 217.
