Historical context

Caracalla, born Lucius Septimius Bassianus and named Marcus Aurelius Antoninus, was Roman emperor from 198 to 217 AD, ruling alone after the murder of his brother Geta in 211. During his reign, civic bronze coins were struck at the city of Adramyttion, located in the region of Mysia in modern-day Turkey. The coinage reflects municipal minting under the Severan dynasty before Caracalla's death during his Parthian campaign in 217.
