Historical context

Adramyttion was an ancient city situated in Aeolis, modern Turkey. Commodus became Roman emperor in 177 at the age of 16, first co-ruling alongside his father Marcus Aurelius until 180 and continuing as sole ruler until 192. The coin's reverse features Demeter, the ancient Greek Olympian goddess of the harvest and agriculture who governed crops, food, and grain.
