Historical context

Adramyttion, also known as Adramyttium, was an ancient city located in modern-day Turkey. This civic coin dates from the Roman Imperial Period, between 177 and 179, when Commodus served as co-emperor alongside his father, Marcus Aurelius. Marcus Aurelius had ruled as Roman emperor since 161, and Commodus became emperor and consul in 177 at age 16 before eventually ruling alone from 180 to 192.
