Coin in bronze struck at Kame in Mysia under Hadrian, dated c. AD 129–138. Corpus Nummorum, the online type corpus of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, records it as CN type 3471 (period: Roman Imperial Period; issuing authority type: city).

Obverse: Laureate bust of Hadrian, right. Legend: ΑΔΡΙΑΝΟϹ ΚΑΙϹΑ ΟΛVΜΠΙΟϹ. Reverse: Hygieia and Asclepius; to left, Hygieia standing right, serpent in right hand; to right, Asclepius standing facing, head left, resting right hand on serpent-staff in right hand; between them lighted altar. Legend: ϹΤΡ ΤΡVΦωΝΟϹ Β ΚΑΜΗΝωΝ. Measured specimens give a mean weight of 11.45 g (from 1 recorded specimen) and a diameter of 29–32 mm (from 2 recorded specimens).

Historical context

Hadrian ruled as Roman emperor from 117 to 138, pursuing imperial ideals that included active involvement in provincial affairs and the promotion of philhellenism. Mysia was an ancient region situated along the south coast of the Sea of Marmara in northwestern Asia Minor, inhabited by Mysians, Phrygians, and Aeolian Greeks. This bronze coin was issued under Hadrian's authority by the city of Kame within Mysia between c. AD 129 and 138.
