Coin in bronze struck at Germe in Mysia under Tranquillina, dated c. AD 241–244. Corpus Nummorum, the online type corpus of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, records it as CN type 3760 (period: Roman Imperial Period; issuing authority type: city).

Obverse: Diademed and draped bust of Tranquillina, right. Legend: ΦΟVΡ ΤΡΑΝΚVΛΛΙΝΑ Ϲ. Reverse: nude Apollo standing, r., crossing legs, holding right hand on over head, resting left arm on decorated pillar surmounted by lyre; to l., laurel-tree entwined by serpent (Python). Legend: ΕΠΙ Μ ΑVΡ ΝΑΙΒΙΑΝ ΓΕΡΜΗΝΩΝ Β. Measured specimens give a mean weight of 10.57 g (mean of 3 recorded specimens) and a diameter of 29–30 mm (from 3 recorded specimens).

Historical context

Germe, also known as Germa, was an ancient town in Mysia situated between the Macestus and Rhyndacus rivers. Furia Sabinia Tranquillina, daughter of the Praetorian Prefect Timesitheus, became Empress of Rome upon her marriage to Emperor Gordian III. Civic bronze coins were struck under her name at Germe during the period of circa AD 241–244.
