Obverse: bust of Philippus iunior, right, wearing cuirass and paludamentum. Legend: Μ ΙΟVΛ ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟϹ Κ. Reverse: two female figures standing, facing, heads facing each other, each emptying oenochoe over pillar and holding their dress (or cloth); between on ground, amphora. Legend: ΓΕΡΜΗΝΩΝ. Measured specimens give a mean weight of 7.61 g (mean of 2 recorded specimens) and a diameter of 26–28 mm (from 2 recorded specimens).

Historical context

Germe, also recorded as Germa, was a town in the ancient region of Mysia in north-western Asia Minor, situated between the rivers Macestus and Rhyndacus. This bronze issue was struck under Philip II, also known as Philip the Younger, who was Roman emperor from 247 to 249, ruling jointly alongside his father Philip I. The coin reflects civic bronze production during the Roman Imperial Period.
