Historical context

His reign established the principate, a system of government maintaining nominal deference to the Senate while leaving autocratic power in his hands. This era commenced an extended period of imperial peace, known as the Pax Romana, and initiated an imperial cult.

Struck at Rome, this silver denarius represents the standard Roman silver coin in circulation from roughly 211 BC into the third century AD. The obverse depicts jugate busts of Fortuna Victrix wearing a round helmet alongside Fortuna Felix wearing a diadem, resting upon a bar terminating in rams' heads, accompanied by the inscription "Q RVSTIVS FORTVNAE ANTIAT". The reverse features an ornamented altar inscribed "FOR RE" and bears the legend "CAESARI AVGVSTO EX SC".
