This bronze sestertius was struck at the mint of Rome under Claudius's imperial authority. During the Roman Empire, the sestertius served as a coin denomination useful for commerce, with a value representing one quarter of a denarius or two and a half asses. The obverse bears the emperor's portrait along with the inscription "TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG P M TR P IMP P P". The reverse depicts a triumphal arch surmounted by an equestrian statue between two trophies, inscribed "NERO CLAVDIVS DRVSVS GERMAN IMP", referencing his father, Drusus the Elder.
