Historical context

Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, commonly known as Caligula, was the third Roman emperor, ruling from AD 37 until his assassination in AD 41. Succeeding Tiberius at the age of 24, Caligula had spent his early years on military campaign with his father, Germanicus, where soldiers gave him the nickname Caligula.
