Historical context
Servius Sulpicius Galba ruled as Roman emperor for seven months, from 8 June AD 68 until 15 January AD 69. The first emperor of the Year of the Four Emperors, he assumed the throne following the suicide of Emperor Nero and with the support of the Praetorian Guard. His brief reign ended when he was murdered on the orders of Otho.
This silver coin is a quinarius struck at the mint of Lugdunum. The quinarius was a small Roman silver denomination valued at half a denarius. On this issue, the obverse bears the portrait of the emperor with the legend SER GALBA IMP CAESAR AVG P M T P, while the reverse features Victory standing upon a globe with a wreath and palm, accompanied by the inscription VICTORIA GALBAE AVG.
