Historical context

Struck at the Rome mint, this silver denarius formed part of the standard silver coinage of the Roman Empire, a denomination originally introduced during the Second Punic War around 211 BC. The obverse presents Galba alongside the inscription "IMP SER GALBA AVG". The reverse design displays an oak-wreath encircling the inscription "S P Q R OB C S" arranged across three lines.
