Historical context

Tiberius served as the second Roman emperor from AD 14 until his death in AD 37, reigning as the second ruler of the Julio-Claudian dynasty after succeeding his stepfather Augustus. A successful general prior to his accession, Tiberius proved an effective and efficient administrator who accumulated significant wealth in the public and imperial coffers. This coinage was produced under his authority at the mint of Lugdunum.

The obverse features Tiberius alongside the legend "TI CAESAR DIVI AVG F AVGVSTVS", while the reverse displays a draped female figure seated with a branch and an inverted spear, accompanied by the inscription "PONTIF MAXIM".
