Historical context

Tiberius ruled as the second Roman emperor from AD 14 until his death in AD 37, having succeeded his stepfather Augustus. A prominent military commander and diplomat prior to his accession, he had earlier consolidated imperial frontiers across Pannonia, Dalmatia, Raetia, and Germania. This coin is a sestertius, which functioned as a large brass denomination during the Roman Empire, struck at Rome under the imperial authority of Tiberius.
