Historical context

This gold multiple was struck under Honorius, who served as Roman emperor from 393 to 423. Following the death of his father, Emperor Theodosius I, in 395, Honorius ruled the Western Roman Empire under the regency of Stilicho. The coin was produced between 395 and 402 at Mediolanum, the ancient Roman precursor to modern Milan, which served as an informal capital of the Western Roman Empire.
