Historical context

Following the death of Emperor Theodosius I in 395, his young sons divided the Roman world: Arcadius ruled the eastern half of the empire, while Honorius governed the western half under the regency of Stilicho. This bronze AE4 coin was struck in AD 395 at Arelate, a city of considerable importance in the province of Gallia Narbonensis, under Honorius while bearing the name and bust of his brother Arcadius.
