Historical context

Julius Nepos ruled as Western Roman emperor from June 474 to August 475, having arrived from Dalmatia with Eastern imperial support to depose Glycerius. Ravenna served as the capital city of the Western Roman Empire during the fifth century, functioning as a primary administrative centre and mint. The siliqua was a late Roman silver denomination introduced in the fourth century. This coin was minted at Ravenna during Nepos's brief tenure before he was forced to retreat to Dalmatia.
