Historical context

Julius Nepos ruled as Roman emperor of the West from 24 June 474 to 28 August 475. Backed by the eastern emperor Zeno, Nepos took command of an army to depose Glycerius and was crowned at Rome in 474. This silver half siliqua was struck between AD 474 and AD 475 at Ravenna, which served as the capital of the Western Roman Empire during the fifth century.
