Historical context

Romulus Augustus, nicknamed Augustulus, reigned as Western Roman emperor from 31 October 475 until 4 September 476. Placed on the throne while still a minor by his father Orestes, the magister militum, following the usurpation of Julius Nepos, Romulus served essentially as a figurehead. His brief rule of ten months ended when the general Odoacer defeated and killed Orestes and deposed Romulus, leaving no successor and effectively ending the Western Roman Empire. This half siliqua was struck in silver at Ravenna during Romulus's short reign between AD 475 and AD 476.
