Historical context
Theodosius II ruled as Roman emperor from 402 to 450, becoming sole emperor of the Eastern Empire following the death of his father Arcadius in 408. His uncle Honorius had governed the Western Roman Empire from 393 until his death in 423, enduring a precarious and chaotic reign. This solidus, an imperial denomination introduced in the early fourth century, was issued from the eastern capital of Constantinople under the authority of Theodosius II while honouring Honorius.
