Historical context

This bronze AE3 was struck at Constantinople under the authority of Theodosius II, who ruled as Roman emperor from 402 to 450. Proclaimed Augustus in infancy, he became the sole ruler of the Eastern Roman Empire following the death of his father, Arcadius, in 408. His capital of Constantinople served as the administrative and political heart of his realm, where he promulgated the Theodosian law code.

The coin features imagery associated with Pulcheria, bearing the obverse legend "AEL PVLCH-ERIA AVG" alongside her pearl-diademed bust crowned by the Hand of God. The reverse depicts her enthroned facing front with arms crossed over her breast, accompanied by a star in the right field and the legend "CONCOR-DIA AVG".
