Historical context

Theodosius II was proclaimed Augustus in 402 and reigned as the Eastern Roman Empire's sole emperor following the death of his father Arcadius in 408. Production took place at Ravenna, which had become the capital city and imperial court of the Western Roman Empire under Honorius in 401.
