Historical context
Domitian ruled the Roman Empire from 81 to 96 as the final emperor of the Flavian dynasty, succeeding his father Vespasian and his brother Titus. During his fifteen-year reign, Domitian used religious and cultural propaganda while nominating himself as perpetual censor. His niece, Julia Flavia, also known as Julia Titi, was the daughter of Emperor Titus and had gained the title Augusta at her father's accession in 79 before her death in circa 91. Struck at Rome, this large brass sestertius commemorates the deified Julia under Domitian's imperial authority.
