Historical context

Titus ruled as Roman emperor from AD 79 until his death on 13 September 81, succeeding his father, Vespasian, as part of the Flavian dynasty. His reign followed service as a military commander in Judaea and as prefect of the Praetorian Guard. As emperor, he was noted for completing the Colosseum and providing relief following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79 and a fire in Rome in AD 80.

The obverse depicts the laureate head of the emperor, bearing the titles recorded in the legend "IMP T CAES VESP AVG P M TR P P P COS VIII". The reverse features Annona accompanied by a modius with corn-ears, a prow, and a statue of Aequitas, inscribed with the legend "ANNONA AVG".
