Historical context

Struck at the Rome mint, this bronze sestertius belongs to Titus's imperial coinage. The sestertius was an ancient Roman coin valued in commerce at one quarter of a denarius, or two and a half asses. The obverse bears the emperor's laureate portrait alongside the inscription "IMP T CAES VESP AVG P M TR P P P COS VIII", while the reverse displays Pax standing with a branch and cornucopiae, accompanied by the legend "PAX AVGVST S C".
