Historical context

Titus Flavius Vespasianus ruled as Roman emperor from AD 79 until his death on 13 September 81. A member of the Flavian dynasty, he was the first Roman emperor to succeed his biological father, Vespasian. Before his accession, he commanded forces in Judaea during the First Jewish–Roman War, capturing Jerusalem in AD 70. During his brief imperial reign, he oversaw relief efforts following disasters including a fire in Rome in AD 80.

Struck at the mint of Rome, this bronze as was issued under Titus's authority. The obverse features a laureate head of the emperor facing left alongside the legend "IMP T CAES VESP AVG P M TR P COS VIII". The reverse depicts a genius standing left, holding a cornucopiae and sacrificing from a patera over a lighted altar, accompanied by the inscription "GENI P R S C".
