Historical context

Titus, a member of the Flavian dynasty, ruled the Roman Empire from AD 79 to 81 after succeeding his father, Vespasian. Before his accession, he served as a military commander in Judaea, capturing Jerusalem in AD 70. Titus ruled to acclaim following his father's death on 23 June 79, though his imperial reign lasted barely two years until his death on 13 September 81.

This bronze as was struck at the mint of Rome under Titus's authority. The obverse presents a laureate head of the emperor, accompanied by an imperial title that includes the eighth consulship: "IMP T CAES VESP AVG P M TR P COS VIII". The reverse depicts Spes standing and facing left, holding a flower in her right hand and raising her skirt with her left, alongside the legend "S C".
