Historical context

Titus served as Roman emperor from AD 79 until his death on 13 September 81, having succeeded his father Vespasian as part of the Flavian dynasty. Prior to his accession, he gained renown as a military commander in Judaea, where he captured Jerusalem in AD 70. His brief imperial rule in Rome was marked by public relief efforts following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79 and a fire in AD 80.

Struck at the Rome mint, this silver denarius formed part of the standard Roman silver coinage in use across the empire. The obverse features the laureate head of Titus alongside the legend "IMP TITVS CAES VESPASIAN AVG P M". The reverse bears the inscription "TR P VIIII IMP XIIII COS VII P P" and depicts a statue of a radiate male standing upon a rostral column, holding a spear and a parazonium.
