Historical context

Vespasian was Roman emperor from 69 to 79 and founded the Flavian dynasty following the civil conflicts of the Year of the Four Emperors. Declared emperor by his legions in July 69 and confirmed by the Senate in December 69, he brought political stability to the empire. His ten-year reign saw financial reforms, imperial consolidation, and major construction projects in Rome.

Struck at the Rome mint, this silver denarius formed part of the standard silver currency of the Roman Empire. The obverse presents the emperor's portrait with the inscription "IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG". The reverse depicts Aequitas holding scales and a transverse rod, accompanied by the legend "COS ITER TR POT".
