Historical context

Vespasian reigned as Roman emperor from 69 to 79, coming to power at the end of the Year of the Four Emperors and founding the Flavian dynasty. Declared emperor by the Senate in December 69, he focused on financial reform, political stability, and major construction projects throughout his ten-year rule before being succeeded by his eldest son, Titus.

This gold aureus was minted in Rome under Vespasian's imperial authority. The reverse design features cornucopiae paired with the legend COS IIII, marking Domitian's fourth consulship.
