Historical context

This silver denarius formed part of the standard Roman silver currency, which served as the primary silver denomination from around 211 BC into the third century AD. Struck at the mint of Rome, the obverse bears the emperor's official imperial title, while the reverse depicts a veiled figure of Pietas raising both hands, accompanied by the inscriptions "P M TR P COS DES III" and "VOT PVB".
