Historical context
His imperial form of address was Imperator Caesar Traianus Hadrianus Augustus, reflected in his official nomenclature. Rather than pursuing territorial expansion, his governance focused on direct intervention in administrative and provincial affairs, consolidating stable borders, and undertaking major building programmes across the Roman Empire, including extensive architectural projects in Rome.
Struck at Rome, this silver denarius formed part of the standard silver denomination that served Roman currency from around 211 BC into the third century AD. The obverse features the emperor with the title "IMP CAESAR TRAIAN HADRIANVS AVG", while the reverse depicts the personification Felicitas holding a caduceus and cornucopia, framed by the legends "P M TR P COS III" and "FELIC AVG".
