Historical context

This orichalcum sestertius was struck at the mint of Rome under Hadrian's imperial authority. In the Roman Empire, the sestertius served as a large brass denomination valued at one quarter of a denarius. The issue depicts Sabina with the obverse inscription "SABINA AVGVSTA HADRIANI AVG P P", associating her title directly with Hadrian, while the reverse depicts the goddess Ceres seated on a basket, accompanied by the letters "S C" in the exergue.
