Historical context

During his reign, Hadrian pursued the unification of the Roman Empire's peoples and engaged in extensive building works in Rome and across the provinces, although his marriage to Sabina proved to be unhappy and childless.

Produced at the Rome mint, this coin is a silver denarius, the standard Roman silver denomination originally introduced around 211 BC during the Second Punic War. Issued under Hadrian's imperial authority, the piece highlights his empress, bearing the obverse legend "SABINA AVGVSTA HADRIANI AVG P P". The reverse depicts Pudicitia, veiled and arranging her veil, accompanied by the legend "PVDICITIA".
