Historical context

Struck at the Rome mint, this bronze sestertius carries the obverse inscription "IMP NERVA CAES AVG P M TR P COS II P P" alongside Nerva's laureate portrait. During the Roman Empire, the sestertius circulated as a denomination valued at one quarter of a denarius or two and a half asses, functioning as a regular medium for commerce. The reverse design features clasped hands holding an aquila set on a prow, paired with the legend "CONCORDIA EXERCITVVM S C".
