Historical context

The fourth ruler among the Nerva–Antonine dynasty's Five Good Emperors, he acquired the cognomen Pius following his accession. His administration was notable for the peaceful state of the Roman Empire, marked by an absence of major revolts or military incursions.

Struck at Rome, this silver denarius formed part of the standard silver coinage introduced during the Second Punic War. The obverse presents the emperor with the legend "IMP CAES T AEL HADR ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P". The reverse depicts Pax draped and holding an extended branch and vertical sceptre, accompanied by the inscription "TR POT XIIII COS IIII | PAX".
