Historical context

This silver coin was issued under the authority of Septimius Severus and his younger son Geta at the mint of Rome. Septimius Severus ruled as Roman emperor from 193 to 211, seizing power during the Year of the Five Emperors following the death of Pertinax. Together with his wife Julia Domna, Severus established the Severan dynasty, elevating his elder son Caracalla to co-emperor in 198 and Geta in 209.

Struck as a denarius, the standard Roman silver coin introduced during the Second Punic War, the piece bears the obverse title "L SEPTIMIVS GETA CAES". The reverse displays the legend "FELICITAS TEMPOR" alongside an image of the personification Felicitas holding a long caduceus while clasping hands with the togate figure of Geta, who holds a cornucopiae.
