Historical context

Lucius Septimius Severus ruled as Roman emperor from 193 to 211, establishing power after the death of Pertinax during the Year of the Five Emperors. With his wife Julia Domna, Severus had two sons: Caracalla, who became Augustus in 198, and Geta, who was proclaimed Augustus in 209. Together they established the Severan dynasty, governing the empire prior to Severus's death at Eboracum in 211.

This silver denarius was struck at the mint of Laodicea ad Mare under the authority of Septimius Severus and Geta. The obverse features a draped, bare-headed bust of Geta accompanied by the legend "P SEPTIMIVS GETA CAES", while the reverse depicts a draped, helmeted Minerva holding a spear and leaning on a shield, paired with the legend "MINERV SANCT".
