RIC IV Geta 134b. Denomination: Sestertius. Authority: Geta; Septimius Severus. Mint: Rome. The obverse shows bust of Geta, bare-headed, draped on left shoulder, right, with the legend P SEPTIMIVS GETA CAES.

The reverse shows caracalla and Geta, veiled, standing right and left facing each other, sacrificing over altar in centre; the one on the left holds roll, the one on the right holds baton (sword?), with the legend CONCORDIA AVGVSTORVM S C.

Historical context

Septimius Severus ruled as Roman emperor from 193 to 211, establishing the Severan dynasty following the civil conflicts of the Year of the Five Emperors. With his wife Julia Domna, Severus had two sons: Caracalla, who was elevated to Augustus in 198, and Geta, who became Augustus in 209. Coins were produced at the Rome mint under their joint authority during the imperial period.

Its reverse features the inscription "CONCORDIA AVGVSTORVM S C" alongside an image of Caracalla and Geta, both veiled, standing opposite one another and sacrificing over a central altar, with one holding a roll and the other a baton or sword.
