Historical context

Together with his second wife, Julia Domna, Severus had two sons: the elder, Caracalla, who was proclaimed Augustus in 198, and the younger, Geta, who was elevated to Augustus in 209. His sons later succeeded him, establishing the Severan dynasty.

Struck at the Rome mint under the authority of Septimius Severus and Geta, this silver denarius functioned as part of the standard Roman silver coinage in circulation between c. 211 BC and the reign of Gordian III. The obverse features the bust of Geta accompanied by the legend "P SEPT GETA CAES PONT", while the reverse displays Geta in military attire, holding a branch and a spear, alongside the legend "PRINC IVVENT".
