Historical context

Publius Septimius Geta was the younger son of Emperor Septimius Severus and Julia Domna. Severus proclaimed his elder son Caracalla co-emperor in 198 and elevated Geta in 209, intending for the brothers to rule together. Severus died in February 211, and Geta was subsequently murdered in December 211 after the brothers proved incapable of sharing power.
