Historical context

Septimius Severus ruled as Roman emperor from 193 to 211. He appointed his elder son, Caracalla, as Augustus in 198, and his younger son, Geta, as Augustus in 209. In 208, Severus travelled to Britain, campaigning in Caledonia in 209. Following Severus's death at Eboracum in early 211, his two sons succeeded him jointly, advised by their mother Julia Domna.

The reverse depicts Caracalla and Geta facing each other, clasping right hands while holding spears, with one crowned by Apollo and the other by Victory. Accompanied by the legend "CONCORDIE AVGG S C", the design portrays the concord between the co-emperors.
