Historical context

Septimius Severus ruled as Roman emperor from 193 to 211, establishing power after the death of Pertinax in the Year of the Five Emperors. Having defeated rival claimants and campaigned across the empire, he governed alongside his family. His younger son, Geta, was born to his second wife, Julia Domna, and was elevated to Augustus in 209, joining his father and elder brother Caracalla in imperial authority.

Produced at the mint of Rome, this silver coin belongs to the denarius denomination, which functioned as the standard Roman silver coin from its introduction around 211 BC until its replacement under Gordian III. The reverse portrays Securitas seated and holding a globe, accompanied by the inscription "SECVRIT IMPERII".
