Historical context

Septimius Severus served as Roman emperor from 193 to 211, establishing imperial rule following the Year of the Five Emperors. With his wife Julia Domna, Severus had two sons, Caracalla and Geta, the younger of whom was proclaimed Augustus in 209. During Severus's reign, the Roman mint produced coinage under the joint authority of the emperor and his sons.

Struck at the Rome mint, this silver denarius formed part of the standard silver coinage circulating in the Roman Empire. The obverse features the bust of Geta, bearing the legend "P SEPT GETA CAES PONT", marking his imperial titles. The reverse depicts Geta veiled and togate, performing a sacrifice out of a patera over an altar tripod and holding a roll, accompanied by the inscription "VOTA PVBLICA".
