Historical context

Septimius Severus ruled as Roman emperor from 193 until his death at Eboracum in early 211, founding the Severan dynasty. With his wife Julia Domna, Severus had two sons: Caracalla, who was proclaimed Augustus in 198, and Geta, who was proclaimed Augustus, or co-emperor, in 209. Geta succeeded Severus alongside Caracalla, advised by their mother, following Severus's death after their campaigns in Britain.

Struck at the Rome mint under the authority of Geta and Septimius Severus, this silver piece belongs to the denarius denomination, which served as the standard Roman silver coin from circa 211 BC until the reign of Gordian III. The coin features the obverse legend "IMP CAES P SEPT GETA PIVS AVG" and depicts Felicitas holding a long caduceus and cornucopiae on the reverse, accompanied by the inscription "PONTIF TR P II COS".
